    Academic Freedom and Responsibility

    Eliot Axelrod (Law), Chair,

    Committee Function

This committee’s function is to protect and assure the rights of members of the academic community to freely study, discuss, investigate, teach, research, publish or administer, as appropriate to their respective roles and responsibilities.

If you have a complaint regarding infringements upon these rights, please file your complaint with the Chair, Professor Eliot Axelrod. Historically, the Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility has acted only when there were specific faculty complaints, and such requests for action remain our priority. However, in the absence of such inquiries, the committee may examine existing or potential threats to academic freedom posed by CUNY and Baruch programs and policies. We therefore also look forward to hearing your suggestions of programs and policies we should review.

    Committee Membership

It consists of a Senate Vice-Chair as chair and five or more additional faculty members approved by the Senate.

    • Anne Swaetz (Fine and Performing Arts)
    • Steven Melnick (Accountancy)
    • Clifford Wymbs (Mkt/IB)
    • Linda Rath  (Lib)
